I'm GWEN —YOGA TEACHER TRAINER, MENTOR & STRATEGIST

Establishing an online presence for your yoga studio or business is essential in today’s digital world. There are different ways to grow your community but let’s reduce them by focusing on the ones where you do not need to pay for ads or to collaborate with others as we have other blogs on collaboration and paid advertising.

So what can you do to grow your community?

The #1 thing you should do is to create content, but not any content, very specific curated content. There is a way to create content for your community to grow and transform them into paying students.

When you wish to grow your community, you must have a strategy. And this strategy should include some inbound and outbound marketing.

Inbound marketing is what your content is for; it means that people will reach out and contact you. They are going in and towards your business.

Outbound marketing means that you are reaching out. This is when you use ads, for example, or send messages to people that did not reach out to you. You are reaching out to them; you are commenting on an ideal student post on Facebook or Instagram, for example. You need to use both marketing strategies to grow your community.

We will mainly focus on inbound marketing because it always feels a lot better when people reach out to us than sending messages to strangers on the internet.

So to create your inbound strategy, you first need to have a clear goal. How can I make people reach out to me and join my community?

You need to have a clear content strategy that includes different content formats depending on your goal. For example, if you post tutorials on how to do things, you will have a big missing piece for people to relate to you. If they cannot relate to you, they will not be able to connect with you and your brand, and the chances of buying from you are getting lower and lower.

Creating well-balanced content should not be done day by day or even week by week. Your strategy to grow your community should be clear. You should decide what you want so you can plan your monthly content accordingly.

Here are some easy steps to increase your inbound marketing:

  • Create a well-balanced content plan which means having more than 1 category of content and more than one format. A format is a reel, carousel, Live, and so on.
  • Always offer a CTA, call to action, to reach out to you. That can be done by adding at the end of your post; send me READY to learn how I manage my anxiety with pranayama.
  • Create engagement in your stories on FB or IG for people to reply to questions or tell you what they need from you. You can do that by adding stickers or simply a poll.
  • And one more will be not to forget to put an easy way to contact you and perhaps in your bio to have a line saying DM ME START to learn more.

Because after doing lots of marketing audits, I can see that it is very frequent to see no contact button, no way to find your current offer, or even an outdated sales page with an offer from 6 months ago.

It can be difficult to know where to begin if you’re just getting started, so here are another 5 tips for growing your yoga community online.

Create Valuable Content

Once you’ve understood who you want in your online yoga community, it’s time to start creating content that will appeal to them. Your content should be valuable, relevant, and timely to keep people engaged. That means posting things like helpful blog articles, instructional videos, class schedules, and anything else that would be useful for your target audience.

You should also make an effort to post regularly so that people have a reason to come back to your site or social media page week after week. A good rule of thumb is to post at least once a week, but if you can manage 2-3 times per week, even better! The key is consistency; if people know they can regularly count on you for valuable content, they’re much more likely to stick around long-term.

Engage With Your Members

Don’t forget to engage with the people who have joined your online yoga community!

Responding to comments and questions shows that you care about your members and are invested in helping them grow their own practice. You can also use engagement as an opportunity to solidify further the relationships between members by encouraging them to interact. For example, if someone asks a question in the comments section of one of your blog posts, see if anyone in the community has an answer before chiming in yourself.

Start a blog and share your knowledge

Being a yoga teacher is about sharing knowledge and helping others grow and develop their practice. A blog is a great way to do this and can also help you attract new students or clients. Share your insights and advice on everything from beginner yoga poses to more advanced asanas, and be sure to include plenty of photos or videos to illustrate your points.

Use social media to reach a wider audience

Social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are powerful tools for reaching new people and promoting your yoga business or practice. Post interesting content, interact with other users, and use relevant hashtags so people can easily find you.

Create helpful video content

Video is becoming increasingly popular as a way to consume information online. If you’re uncomfortable being in front of the camera, you can create helpful yoga tutorials or product demonstrations instead. Whatever type of video content you create, be sure to optimize it for search engines so that people can easily find it when they’re looking for information on yoga.

Offer free resources on your website

One great way to attract visitors to your website is by offering free resources they can’t find anywhere else. This could be anything from a downloadable PDF of beginner yoga poses to a detailed guide on starting a home practice. Whatever you offer, make sure it’s high-quality and informative so that people will keep coming back for more.

Get involved in the larger yoga community online

Many active forums and groups are dedicated to yoga offline and online. Getting involved in these communities is a great way to connect with other yogis, learn new things, and promote your own business or practice. Ask questions, answer queries from others, and participate in discussions—the more you engage, the more people will notice you and what you offer.

Conclusion

By following these tips, you’ll be well on your way to growing your yoga community online! Just remember to focus on quality content, regularly engaging with others, and offering value whenever possible—and soon, your online following will grow exponentially.
